Basic Activities for Home tutors


Nowadays’, tutoring is a basic need for students to learn subjects and to improve their academic grades. Parents and students almost prefer private tutors or home tutors for tutoring. During private tuition classes, students get one-on-one attention from a tutor that helps to develop an interest in studies and to improve skills for solving their multi-stage problems. A teacher may motivate the student to succeed in life and this helps students to develop self-confidence for their studies. Tutor shall give a right environment for studying where no distraction may distract student's mind as television, music etc.

A right environment is necessary for a student to learn lessons by heart, if the environment is not according to the studies then the student shall face distraction problems while learning their lessons. Tutors may teach a student, how to use their time and how they may make the right schedule for studying and for other works. Students should follow the right way of studying; the studies may be easier for them.

Practice and preparation

A tutor must find out about the student and their problem before teaching the lesson. Confirm the lessons and all subjects that the student needs help with, the preparation can be done according to it. Tutors should ask the student to arrange all the necessary study materials in the room where the tuition class takes place such as textbooks, reference books etc.

Before teaching a lesson tutor should make a plan and strategy by which that tutor may teach to the student and learn effectively.

Create right environment

Every tutor should create the right environment for the student where no distraction may distract the student while studying and learning their lessons. For effective learning and teaching, it requires a concentration and that can possible in the right environment where no distraction can possible.

Put students at ease

Introduce yourself and ask the student to introduce himself/herself and make a healthy bonding with the student. Be friendly with the student, that the student may interact with you easily and may ask his/her queries with ease without feeling hesitation, but be professional as well. You should remind students that you are with them to solve each problem and query. Teach them with fun to generate their interest in studies.


Find out the problems

Tutors should find out the real problem of the student. Find out the strength and weaknesses of the student. Are your student good at English or history and facing problems in Math or Science? Let them tell their problems and queries, listen carefully this shall help you to analyze the real cause of their problems. You should try to find the different teaching methods or strategies that may help your student in learning and understanding the lessons. It is a responsibility of a home tutor to sort out the queries of the student and to motivate him/her for performing well in academics to improve grades.

Prepare study plan

Prepare a study plan for a student and mention the time schedule for every subject according to you that can be effective for the student to improve grades. The study plan shall help you as well as the student because it shall manage all the topics that should be covered during the tuition.

Make it interesting and funny

Every student wants to learn with fun and nobody like to make his/her tuition boring. Teach them with real facts and fun, if you are teaching history subject, then share some facts and real events that shall generate their interest in the subject and that shall be helpful for them to understand it easily.

Assign them homework

After teaching a lesson assign some homework for them it shall help you to check that they have understood the lesson or not and because of the homework student may do a revision of the lesson that you taught.
