The efficiency of classroom management in reducing student stress

A lot of researchers have shown that unremitting stress is leading to the enhanced levels of infection and illness, cuts of years from the lives of people and cutting down their happiness. If the students in the high school can deal with the stress efficiently and can carry the skills into adulthood, it will be able to create ripple effects throughout their entire lives. All of these theories can present physiological as well as psychological explanations for the significance of one’s health to cope up with stress. Humour can produce significant effects in three important domains like appraisal, problem-focused and emotion. Laughter can provide a cathartic effect by discharging any built-up tension and emotions. 

Stress-Reduction Techniques
One of the most important and famous techniques is the deep breathing technique. This defines that the students need to breathe very slowly for a count of four and do the same for out in a slow manner for the count of four as well. It is a fantastic thing that acts as mindfulness and can help slow things down.  It also creates a sense of calmness and ease. 

Another noticeable technique is the visualisation. The students are in general asked to think about a place which is relaxing to them so that they can imagine themselves. There is a tendency of the students to think about some quiet place like a forest or a beach, and they can use this visualisation technique to transport themselves in that spot any time when they feel they are stressed out.


Progressive relaxation is another essential technique where student are asked to clear off their desks and are asked to sit comfortably in their positions. Sometimes, some teaching about positive mental as well as emotional health is regarded as a luxury or extravagance. 

Tips for reducing stress in the classroom

  •      Posting on a daily schedule so that uncertainty can be reduced to a greater extent
  •      Respond to any form of disruption in a calm and composed manner and privately
  •      Keeping the classroom clean and organised so that the students get the motivation to take part in learning
  •      Maintenance of a positive as well as a safe learning environment in the classroom
  •      The teachers must make sure that the students are given “brain breaks” to process learning
  •      Teach and create models in the classroom regarding stress management

The teachers can talk to students about extending the use of stress management in other areas of life as well. Stress management acts as a lifelong skill that can help to solve a wide range of problems from health to relationships between family members. 

5. Other Ways to Reduce Student Stress

There are five different ways through which teachers can help the students in the classroom to relieve stress.

  •      Monitor the Physical surroundings

The teachers need to avoid the clutter that can include too much visual stimulation in the form of bright colours as well as other visual distracters. It will be great if there are some decorations and be displaying student work is a must.


  •      Allow for Movement and Fidgeting 

Sitting still will not work for the students. Some teachers have gained success while experimenting with exercise balls instead of fidget toys, disc cushions or seats. 

  •      Reduce Extraneous Noise

Some noises are useful and productive for the sake of development. But some extraneous sounds need to be reduced to relieve the stress of the students. The teacher has the option of switching on some light music at the corner of the classroom that can keep the focus of the students from getting diverted from noises. 

  •      Build in Time for Transitions

Most teachers are aware of this and take the help of intuition. The teachers must build time for the students for transitions from lighter activity to something that requires more focus. 

  •      Make Students Aware of Their Mindset
